![]() This past Tuesday, June 14, Fr. Benoît Grière, superior general of the Augustinians of the Assumption, appointed Fr. Benoît Gschwind provincial of France. Having accepted his new mission, Fr. Gschwind will take office on July 1, 2011.
Short Biography
Fr. Benoît Gschwind, 47 years of age, succeeds Fr. Benoît Grière, elected superior general of the congregation on May 11, 2011.
Born on September 30, 1963, in Basel (Switzerland), Benoît Gschwind, of Swiss-French background, completed all of his early education in the public schools of Alsatia. After one year of medical studies and a stint in civil service as a conscientious objector, he entered the novitiate of the Assumptionists in 1984.
Ordained a priest in 1991 by Most Rev. Albert Rouet, then auxiliary bishop of Paris, he was named to the Assumptionist community of Soisy-sur-Seine (Essonne) and was assigned to diocesan youth ministry in the public school sector of the diocese of Évry.For six years, he also did parish work in the new city of Évry.
A member of the community of Cachan (Val-de-Marne) as of 1997, he served as formator of the young people of his community and was a member of the formation committee of the province of France.
In 1999, he began work at Prions en Église (Living with Christ) and became editor-in-chief in 2005.
Highly involved in the Scouting movement, Fr. Gschwind was the national chaplain of the Cub Scout branch of the Scouts of France until 2004, then of the Boy Scouts of the organization. In 2008, he became the national chaplain of the entire Scouting organization.
Author-composer, he has written and/or composed the music for numerous songs used at youth gatherings and parish liturgies. |
